Untreated epididymitis (often from chlamydia or gonorrhea) can cause pain that affects sexual function during the active infection, though this generally resolves with treatment rather than causing lasting ED. Some research has looked at chronic pelvic pain syndromes, sometimes linked to prior STDs, as a contributing factor to ED in a smaller subset of cases, though this is a less direct and less common pathway than most causes of ED.

Anxiety or stress related to an STD diagnosis, a recent scare, or general sexual health worry can genuinely affect sexual function too — this is a real, if less discussed, pathway distinct from the infection itself causing a physical problem. That said, the overwhelming majority of ED cases have other, more common causes entirely — cardiovascular health, diabetes, medication side effects, stress, and other factors unrelated to STDs — which is worth keeping in perspective if ED is the primary concern rather than assuming an STD connection first.
